In this week of classes, Rick O’Connor will cover some fundamental techniques on how to improvise within the genre of Jazz Manouche (colloquially described as gypsy jazz). These will include an introduction to jazz harmony, how to translate musical ideas into improvised solos, tips and tricks on how to make your improvisations sound authentic, specialised bowing techniques and how to recognise chord progressions and play over them in different keys.

Rick uses his experience as a teacher to break down these skills into small manageable steps. When taking this class, students will start on a journey of being able to freely express themselves through improvisation, while learning new and fun music, and simultaneously breaking free of the somewhat rigid constraints of being a classically trained musician.
