Maarit Honkanen is a Finnish pianist and a dedicated music educator. She graduated with a Master of Music from the Music University Sibelius Academy, Helsinki Finland. She has a long experience as a Suzuki piano teacher and a teacher trainer. She has been teaching the piano since the age of 12. For decades, her main occupation has been working as a piano lecturer at a music institute in Espoo. Many of her students have won prizes in national and international music competitions, and many of them are nowadays professional musicians.
She has also worked as a Senior Lecturer in Piano Pedagogy at the University of Applied Sciences of Helsinki and as an accompanist and Lied Pianist at Sibelius Academy.
In the early nineties Maarit had a great opportunity to study during half an year in the Talent Education Institute, Matsumoto with Mrs Kataoka and Doctor Suzuki.
She has worked as a Piano Teacher Trainer of the ESA since 2007. She has also served on the ESA Piano Committee and on the board of the Finnish Suzuki Association. She has been invited to teach at many Suzuki workshops across Europe.
Nowadays, Maarit is a freelancer and divides her life with her family between Finland and Spain.
