Sebastian Müller

 

Sebastian Müller currently maintains violin – and viola classes at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (Junior Department) London, at Chethams’ School of Music (Manchester) and at Birmingham Conservatoire.

 

Before committing to his positions at music conservatoires in the UK, Sebastian taught at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover at the IFF, Germany’s top ranking music specialist school, as well as at the Universities of Sheffield and Chichester (UK). He has been senior lecturer and director of the string orchestra at Leeds College of Music.

 

Many of Sebastian’s’ students have won national and international competitions, grants and scholarships. Within his teaching concept he collaborates with scientists and practitioners in the fields of psychology and movement science and has recently submitted a patent application on a method of establishing an individual optimal static concept of the violin hold/posture. He regularly coaches the National Youth String Orchestra of Great Britain and the Portuguese National Youth Orchestra and is frequently invited to give masterclasses in – and outside the UK. As a violinist and chamber music coach, Sebastian has worked with music specialist students at the Moscow and St Petersburg conservatories and has been guest lecturer at various music colleges.

 

Sebastian trained with Irina Goldstein in Hannover, Germany, before studying at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, Germany, with Stephan Picard. Under the tuition of Ina Kertscher he graduated with first class honours at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, Germany, in 2006. As a winner of a scholarship Sebastian continued his studies with Detlef Hahn at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he graduated with distinction on the Master’s programme in 2008. At the same time, he studied the viola with Nobuko Imai and Sven Tepl at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Netherlands, and received further education from Pinchas Zukerman in the US, Renaud Capuçon, Antje Weithaas, Régis Pasquier and Roman Nodel. Following his studies Sebastian was awarded a junior fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.

 

Sebastian’s extensive performance career has seen him feature as soloist with the major violin concerto repertoire in – and outside Europe, most recently playing the Beethoven violin concerto in Germany and the UK and the Mozart violin concerto KV 216 at Samara Opera house, Russia. He has acted as principal leader and soloist of the German String Orchestra and worked with the London Symphony Orchestra. He is prize winner on both the violin and piano of the “Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert”, the “Ivan Sutton Chamber Music Competition” and the “Südwestdeutscher Kammermusikwettbewerb”.
