Michiko was born in Japan, but has been living in the UK since 1994. She began playing the violin at the age of three with a Suzuki method teacher in Sendai. This early experience has significantly influenced her musical development, and she is now a fully accredited Suzuki violin teacher.
Michiko studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she completed both an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate diploma in Violin Performance. On graduation, she also received the Music in the Community Award for her outreach work in schools. Her strong interest in children’s musical education has inspired her to explore and develop multiple teaching styles and methods, allowing her to identify the most effective strategies for helping her students to reach their full potential.
She has a thriving private teaching practice in North London, and enjoys being a part of Barnet Suzuki Group. She is also a violin teacher and chamber music coach at the junior department of Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Michiko combines her teaching with a freelance performing career. She regularly performs with many orchestras and chamber groups, as well as giving solo recitals across the UK and Japan.
