Jon Cottle is a cellist, improviser and teacher living and working in Barcelona. He studied at Leeds University before receiving a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Whilst studying he developed a great interest in using the Cello to play more modern styles of music as well as using modern technologies to augment the natural sound of the cello.
As a musician in London he played with the Heritage Orchestra, as well keeping up a busy schedule of concerts and recordings, playing in his own groups, and touring Europe, North America and Japan with the American band Clare & the Reasons and the musician Van Dyke Parks. Having moved to Barcelona in 2011 he has continued to seek out interesting musicians, currently playing with The Pinkertones, Nubla, Cordes del Mon, Caracara and the free improvisation group Baktun Ensemble.
Throughout his career, Jon has been an active teacher of the Suzuki Method, both in London and in Barcelona. He has taught on a variety of courses, including the LSG Summer School in Bryanston and the National Suzuki Workshop in Spain. He also increasingly gives classes in improvisation and modern music, and has been invited to teach at the Barcelona Fiddle Congress, Bellaterra Fiddle Camp, Avinyó Summer Jazz Course and the Dale Cuerda Masterclasses.
