Check this page for a quick look at what’s new at the LSG International Summer School 2025 versus last year:

  • Monday evening percussion session with new Percussion faculty member Flavio Li Vigni: A 30-minute workshop exploring simple rhythmic concepts inspired by Konnakol, the South Indian art of vocal percussion. Through interactive call-and-response exercises, we’ll break down rhythmic syllables and patterns to help you improve your timing, develop a stronger sense of groove, and build confidence in improvisation, whether you’re a drummer, instrumentalist, or vocalist. We’ll also introduce some basic elements of Samba, offering a glimpse into the powerful collective rhythms of a Brazilian bateria. No experience needed—just come ready to listen, move, and join in!
  • Tuesday evening TED talks (3 x 20 minutes) given by international chess player Lilja Gretarsdottir (about resilience, practise makes perfect, daily habits/struggles, sound decision making, little and big sacrifices, etc.); Alexander and Chi kung instructor Henry George (on performance confidence, based on the “alter ego effect”); and Richard Michael (“Bach and Bacharach: It’s all the same notes.”)
  • One-to-one singing lessons with Frazer Scott, see the Handbook for how to book
  • One-to-one sessions with Richard Michael, LSG’s faculty member for piano jazz/improvisation, for parents and or players: “Lessons on improvisation in Baroque and Jazz styles” booking available through his mobile +44 7759 498836
  • Having listened to feedback regarding the Lunchtime Concerts, we are trying a new format. Concerts this year will be up to 1:15 in length, and the afternoon program of classes will start 15 mins later. If the demand for solos is still greater than this, we will still need to have a Saturday Lunchtime Concert, but it should be shorter
  • In line with the desire to keep Lunchtime Concerts to a manageable length, and to allow all prepared performances, only those performances whose audition videos show all the required elements (playing from memory, accompanied if appropriate, submitted on time via the required YouTube or Google Drive with appropriate permissions set etc.) will be set into a concert. Here is more information about how to prepare your audition video
