Emma Butterworth grew up in the Suzuki Method, beginning the cello at the age of 4 and learning with Christine Livingstone. She studied at Cambridge University, and later trained as a Suzuki teacher. Emma has been teaching for over 15 years and also performs as a singer and cellist in a number of bands.<\/p>\n
As a conductor, Emma has worked with many student and adult orchestras, ranging from early years ensembles to post grade 8 groups. She has also coached a wide variety of chamber music ensembles, and enjoys leading improvisation sessions.<\/p>\n
As well as playing and teaching, Emma is a prolific composer and arranger of music for a wide variety of ensembles and genres. She has a Master\u2019s in Composition for Film and TV from the University of Bristol and is a member of BAFTA Connect and the Ivors Academy. Emma has scored over a dozen films and has also recently completed \u2018Orchard Street\u2019, her first opera, funded by Arts Council England.<\/p>\n
